We are Greensboro’s Treasure

I am writing in support of the EMF Faculty Artists, who seek to maintain the excellence Greensboro has enjoyed since 1962 with a professional orchestra at its core. These musicians are a vital part of our community every summer.

We, the community, are regular concert-goers, first-time concert-goers, supporters of the arts and music education, community member, classical music lovers, parents, musicians, students, teachers. We come from this neighborhood, as well as from all over North Carolina and out of state to experience the incredible concerts performed by the Faculty Artists.

I am extremely concerned about the path the negotiations between the musicians and management have taken.

I do not believe Management should eliminate the Eastern Festival Orchestra, fully comprised of faculty.

I believe Management should assure the musicians’ job stability, instead of treating them as seasonal employees, when in fact most of them have returned year after year, some for decades.

I do not believe the Faculty Artists should be cut from 61 positions to 27 positions.

The Faculty Artists are committed to EMF. It’s time for EMF to commit to them.
