EMF SUMMER 2025 CANCELLED

The faculty artists of the Eastern Music festival are shocked and appalled at the board's decision to cancel this summer's festival. Since 1961, elite professional and student musicians have called Greensboro their summer home. Through good times and bad, the festival proceeded uninterrupted, even during the COVID-19 emergency. During that trying time, the festival didn't shut down, but transitioned to online learning, with complete buy-in from both students and faculty. The board's unnecessary, irresponsible, and unilateral decision to cancel the festival displays a complete failure of leadership. It is a slap in the face, not only to the faculty, but to prospective students, alumni, and the Greensboro community. The board has prioritized self-destructive, punitive action over the well-being of students and the musical enrichment of North Carolina. The faculty artists of EMF love this festival, love our students, and love this community. We continue to be willing to sit down together at the same table to come to an agreement that ensures a thriving future for EMF.

Unfortunately, the board's action demonstrates unequivocally that they do not possess the leadership or vision required to make this happen.

We think EMF students deserve the same quality educational experience that they’ve had for the past 60 years, and that cutting the jobs of our hard-working colleauges is unacceptable. Join us in telling EMF management that faculty cuts hurt our students by signing below:
